We are very pleased with Henning Kürbis, who joined Marktlink on 1 February as managing partner and manager of our new office in Hamburg. It is our second office in Germany and allows us to expand our network even faster and further, together with Borys Storck and his team in Düsseldorf; we are actively committed to accelerating the German M&A market.
The choice for Hamburg was an easy one; the city has a strong foundation of SMEs with a demand for consultancy. Also, the economic centre of Northern Germany is an attractive base of operations for Scandinavia, where our Danish colleagues led by managing partner Jesper Fogh Duelund serve the Danish M&A market.
Henning Kürbis sees many opportunities in the important port city. “Hamburg’s tremendously strong commercial presence is often overshadowed by the Ruhr area and Frankfurt. But Hamburg has a strong trading history and a considerable tradition of family businesses. This tradition, however, has caused challenges in succession these recent years; and that is where we come in.”
Personal commitment is very important to us at Marktlink. The new office in Hamburg allows us to engage with entrepreneurs in Germany on a regional level. Henning Kürbis: “In a challenging economic climate in Central Europe, it is important to identify growth opportunities. Because after several crises these past few years, we can establish that the M&A market is in a constant state of flux.”
That state of flux means that the M&A market is increasingly crossing borders. At Marktlink we anticipate this by keeping short lines of communication between the offices in different countries. From the Netherlands, it is also clear to partner Fredrik Jonker that international business acquisitions are here to stay. “Economically speaking, Europe has by now become one market. It is more important than ever that Marktlink stands ready to help local entrepreneurs with their growth ambitions. That makes Hamburg a key location on this international playing field.
Opening our tenth office means that we can further increase our focus on the European mid-market, as a large majority of entrepreneurs are considering selling their companies within the next ten years. We are happy to support them in achieving a successful exit with our local presence, extensive market knowledge and the largest network of European investors. That also means that Marktlink wants to keep growing, both in the number of offices and in expanding our team of M&A specialists.
